Module 5 – Sectorial signs in the field of art and culture

This module equips museum workers with the knowledge and skills to effectively use sectorial signs in the field of art and culture, specifically during museum tours for Deaf visitors. The module is divided into three main topics, each with detailed subtopics and explanations. The primary goal of this module is to enable museum workers to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to incorporate sectorial signs into their work, providing an inclusive and accessible experience for Deaf visitors. The module employs interactive methods to help learners develop practical competencies in using sectorial signs.

The topics within the module are:

• Topic 1: Importance of sectorial signs in art and culture – This topic delves into the significance of sectorial signs in the field of art and culture, highlighting the benefits of using these specialised signs to facilitate communication with Deaf visitors. It also emphasises the need for museum workers to understand and appreciate the role of sectorial signs in creating an inclusive and accessible environment.
• Topic 2: Vocabulary with seven themes – This topic introduces learners to the sector-specific vocabulary in sign language, focusing on the seven main sectors in the field of art and culture. By acquiring this vocabulary, museum workers will be better equipped to communicate effectively with Deaf visitors and demonstrate their commitment to continuous learning and improvement of sign language skills.
